Sonorism is an approach to
musical composition that focuses on the characteristics,
quality, and texture of
sound. This emphasis on sound is inherintly connected
with a search for new types of sounds, and sonorism relies
on experimenting with
instruments to create novel playing techniques. As a
movement, sonorism was initiated in the 1960s in the new
avantgarde of Polish music.
