Cubop is a mix of Afro-Cuban rhythms and the
be-bop style of
jazz. It is one early style of the larger group of
styles known as
latin jazz. Cubop was developed in the
early 1940s, mostly by the
Afro-Cubans, especially the notable Dizzy Gillespie and
Mario Bauza.
